We have been working with the ESP32 and all of it’s variants since it came on to the market. The ESP32 chip, produced by Espressif Systems, supports Wi-Fi and BlueTooth – making it a great microcontroller for iOT devices.
More recently released is the RP2040, developed by Raspberry Pi. This microcontroller is versatile and features a dual-core Arm Cortex-M0+ processor clocked at 133MHz. Despite its impressive performance, it remains affordable, making it accessible to a wide range of projects and budgets.
For stunning lighting effects we think you can’t look past Neopixels, also known as WS2812B LEDs. This RGB (red, green, blue) LEDs are relatively simple to control and are bright. Over time they have evolved from 5mm x 5mm (which is fairly large) to 2mm square and recently 1mm square. Adafruit Industries are a great source for starting out with neopixels – both for hardware and for software.
